Please join Jeff Kasser, along with Ben Prytherch (Statistics) and Emily Hardegree-Ullman (Physics), for a Science on Tap panel at Avogadro’s Number in Fort Collins at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, May 29th.
The event commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first real experimental confirmation of the general theory of relativity. Eddington and his team used a total eclipse to measure the deflection of light from distant stars by the sun’s gravitational field. Emily will explain general relativity and why it involved this experimental implication, Ben will discuss the data and the sense in which it confirmed Einstein’s theory, and Jeff will discuss Popper’s use of the experiment, highlighting issues about falsification, confirmation, and rational reconstruction.
Come for the beer, stay for the science!
